How am I doing?

Particularly as the 25th of the months have ticked by, I’ve wondered how I’m doing on my 30 before 30 list.  I happen to know that on the 25th of August, with just one month until my youth implodes, I will be neck deep in the busiest time of my work-year, trying to catch up with kids who will spend more time with other caregivers because of our work, ignoring housework and pretending the budget doesn’t exist in favor of expensive conveniences.

I have a hunch that I’ve got a ways to go…let’s see:

1.    Watch 1 movie a month with Noah.  I’ve forsaken movies for readily available tv on the internet or dvds.  He jokes that I’m not the same woman he married (the woman who made copious bucket lists of classic movies to watch).  I might argue that television was my first media love, but who could argue with a cute boy who wants to cuddle on the couch for a couple hours?

Hm…well, we actually watched a movie last night…there was as much laundry-folding as cuddling, but we did watch a movie.   I’ll have to see if he remembers if we watched a flick in March, April, May, June and July.   I should have kept better records, eh?

2.    Finish 9 (more) credits towards my masters degree.

6 (more) are finished.  God willing, I’ll have the last 3 finished by Saturday at midnight!

3.    Actually apply to be admitted to the masters program, as I’m currently enrolled as a non-degree seeking student.

Not done, but I do have time on the calendar to put together the last pieces.

4.    Apply for 3 scholarships.

Fail.

5.    Don’t get pregnant.

So far so good!

6.    Plant wild strawberries as ground cover in the front yard.

Welp, wild strawberries are planted.  Check.  They do not look cute yet, though.

7.    Visit the Galapagos Islands.

Done!

8.    Blog a couple of times a month about life and living in Grand Rapids, including at least one house tour.  (8a. Purchase a camera to make this possible!)

I’ve blogged a couple times….  I’ll work on that house tour!

9.    Send 1000 people into the city for a one-day service-learning project.

Workin’ on it!  And it’ll be more like over 1200 people.  {eek, squeal, wringing of hands}

10.  Go camping with our little family for the first time.  …and maybe the second time as well, as talk of spending time with family and friends this summer has two different camping trips on the table.

One camping trip done, and plans for another are on the table.

11.   Take a stab at caring for my body with weight watchers and/or exercise classes offered at work.

Uh, okay, mhm….

12.   Go on one date with Noah each month.

I’m pretty sure this has not happened.  😦  I’m lobbying to make up for it with a whole weekend away, but I fear that won’t happen either.

13.   Finish my edits for our church’s website.

nope.

14.   Make thank you gifts for Jonah’s Children’s Church teachers.

aw, nope.

15.   Start a toddler art group: plan the first few meetings ahead of time; using free or very cheap materials; bringing different parent-friends together.

Nope, nope.

16.   Clean the basement.

uclh.  No.  But yes, still very much needs to be done.

17.   Organize the garage.  Isn’t this a dreamy plan? http://makingitlovely.com/2010/03/10/ideas-for-an-organized-garage/ Did you even know a dreamy garage was possible?

oh, must keep that dreamy inspiration within reach.

18.   Read a book of my own choosing (not tied to obligations of school or work).

hm…I’ve read several, but probably haven’t finished one.

19.   Visit a town in Michigan I’ve never been before.

Yes!  Fremont!…or at least Fremont Lake.  I’m gonna say that counts.   Lakes are a big deal in summertime in Michigan.

20.   Back up the files on our computer.

Well, shoot.  Nope, and our computer is now in the shop for a new hard drive.  Let’s resolve to get this one done, if they’re able to rescue our data.

21.   Make something for mothers’ day and fathers’ day…and deliver the things to the mothers and fathers.  ;)

eek.  No comment…yet….

22.  Get a new doctor and visit the new doctor.

Nope.

23.   Make a playlist of songs that bring me delight.

Yes!  I love you, Spotify!

24.   Host a summer party.

Hosted game night with our summer staff, hosted some friends from church for grilled dinner outdoors, topped off with root beer floats.

25.   Frame the last 3 photos for the gallery wall.

No…I’m not sure I’m gonna get this done, for sake of funds redirected to framing Beerhorst’s Walk Humbly.

26.   Eat local during the summer months, hopefully through membership in one of greater Grand Rapids’ CSAs.

Partially accomplished.

27.   Teach kiddos more songs.  One of my greatest joys this week has been Babycakes singing along to this album: http://www.youaremyflower.org/home.html.

We’re still enjoying that album, and J&E have learned a new prayer song.  J is becoming less shy in his singing.

28.   Figure out my sewing machine and sew a table-cloth.

M.  Not yet.

29.   Make artwork for Jonah’s room and Eden’s room to fit frames we already have.

Not yet.

30.   Get my pearl earrings fixed

Not yet.

Looks like I have quite a bit to do!  Stay tuned.
